Standards of Practice

Indiana

Click here to view the official standards of practice, rules, and regulations that licensed home inspectors in Indiana are expected to follow.  These standards explain what inspectors are expected to inspect, what falls outside the scope of an inspection, and how findings should be reported. The Home Inspectors Licensing Board oversees and establishes the rules for licensed home inspectors.

Kentucky

In Kentucky, licensed home inspectors are required to follow a recognized standards of practice when performing inspections. The state allows inspectors to use standards from one of several national organizations, including:

  • ASHI (American Society of Home Inspectors)
  • NAHI (National Association of Home Inspectors)
  • NACHI (National Association of Certified Home Inspectors)

These standards outline what inspectors must inspect, what they can’t inspect, and how they should report their findings. They help ensure consistency and professionalism across the industry.

The Kentucky Board of Home Inspectors oversees and establishes regulations for licensed home inspectors.

National Radon Proficiency Program (NRPP)

NRPP is a national certification program that trains and certifies professionals to properly test for radon gas and install radon reduction systems.

If you're buying a home and want to have it tested for radon, it's important to hire someone who is NRPP certified. That means they’ve completed training, passed exams, and follow strict guidelines for how to place testing equipment, handle results, and make recommendations. In addition, in Indiana, radon testing requires a separate state license in addition to a home inspector license.
